About Us
The Children’s Aid Society is providing the Pre-K Counts Program through the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is in partnership with the Clearfield Area School District to ensure proper transition between Pre-K and Kindergarten.
The Pre-K Counts Program will provide children with the skills necessary to successfully transition into kindergarten and succeed in school.
This program will use a Creative Curriculum, 3rd edition, an approach to teaching young children through play that focuses on setting program goals and objectives for children and guidelines for teaching that address all aspects of a child’s development; social/emotional, cognitive and physical.
The PA Early Learning Standards will be used in a variety of ways in our classroom. The lessons and activities that are used to teach the children skills in the areas of Social Skills, Literacy, Math, Art, Science/Sensory and Gross Motor are all linked to the Early Learning Standards. The Pre-K teacher and aide will meet on a regular basis prior to implementation the curriculum to discuss how each lesson correlates to the Early Learning Standards. Because the Creative Curriculum is designed to focus on the developmental progress of each child, the Pre-K staff will naturally look to the PA Early Learning Standards for guidance when it comes to individualizing the curriculum. The Creative Curriculum is also naturally aligned with the Early Learning Standards because it is designed to promote creativity in children. Creativity occurs when children gather information by asking questions, learn through trial and error, and gain new knowledge by making mistakes.
Pre-K Counts
Pennsylvania Pre-K counts
Providing high quality pre-kindergarten to young children across the Commonwealth.
Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts, established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, is bringing quality half-day and full-day pre-kindergarten to 3 and 4 year olds in Pennsylvania.
Why does my child need to attend a high quality pre-kindergarten program?
Children who come to kindergarten without all the skills they need often stay behind and struggle in school. Quality pre-kindergarten prepares children for reading and math, but also for paying attention, following directions and getting along with others. Pre-kindergarten gives children a chance to learn, become excited about school and be better students.
By enrolling your child in quality pre-kindergarten, your child has a better chance of being ready for kindergarten and grade school. This strong early start in pre-kindergarten means they have a better chance of doing well in school, going on to college or career training, and getting a good job. All of this can start by enrolling your child in a PA Pre-K Counts classroom!
