Our foster care program evolved as a complement to our adoption program. We
strive to place children in quality homes where they will be nurtured, supported
and given opportunities for success. Our foster families are selected from our
waiting approved adoptive families and from new families who are being dually
approved and certified for adoption and foster care as resource families.
The children and teens placed in Children’s Aid Society’s foster care program
primarily are in the legal custody of Pennsylvania county Children and Youth
Agencies. Many children have special needs, including mental health diagnoses,
learning challenges and behavioral issues. Occasionally, a child is placed in
our foster care by a birth parent who is considering adoption for his/her
infant. In a few instances, foster care services are provided by our agency for
non-Pennsylvania children placed in a foster/adoptive placement with one of our
private prospective adoptive families.
